Whose Path Are You Walking?

“It’s one thing to feel that you are on the right path, but it’s another to think that yours is the only path.” — Paulo Coelho

Have you ever had others criticize you for the path in life you have been called to walk, be it spiritual, career, lifestyle, and so on? Often those who tend to have the greatest opposition to the pathway we walk are family and friends. Of course this can be extended to include religious institutions, political parties, and cultural traditionalists as well — many of which make no bones about it, priding themselves on believing that their way is the only way. It can be incredibly difficult to separate from the “herd” and go our own way when it goes against the grain of the herd mentality (or majority) and yet, if we don’t, we know there is a part of us that will slowly begin to die. Call it spirit, soul, life force, or what you may, there is that within us that knows who it is we’ve come here to be and what it is we’ve come here to do and if we don’t listen to its call, it begins to wane. This is when life becomes more about enduring until we die rather than thriving while we are here.

Perhaps what our critics don’t understand is that beneath the layer of what they may refer to as “choice,” there lies another layer where lives the authentic self, and its voice perpetually whispers ever so softly in our inner ear, “Be who you are and you’ll find freedom, fullness of expression, joy, peace, purpose and meaning in this precious life you have been given.” This voice beckons us to be true to ourselves; when we hear and listen to that voice, it’s not so much that we are then guided to choose a certain path in life but, in truth, realize that our path has chosen us. However, do not consider this a “get out of jail free” card for the bad choices we all have made along the way that may have caused pain and suffering in our lives or the lives of others; the reality that our path chooses us when we are ready in no way alleviates the fact that we are always personally accountable for the choices we make in our day-to-day lives. The voice to which I refer is incapable of guiding us in a direction that is self-destructive or harmful to others or that in any way dishonors the sacredness of life, because it is life itself that beckons us.

Nine steps to transform yourself into a river

“A river never passes the same place twice,” says a philosopher. “Life is like a river,” says another philosopher, and we draw the conclusion that this is the metaphor that comes closest to the meaning of life. Consequently, it is always good to remember::

A] We are always doing things for the first time. While we move between our source (birth) to our destination (death), the landscape will always be new. We should face these novelties with joy, not with fear – because it is useless to fear what cannot be avoided. A river never stops running.

B] In a valley we walk slower. When everything around us becomes easier, the waters grow calm, we become more open, fuller and more generous.

C] Our banks are always fertile. Vegetation only grows where there is water. Whoever comes into contact with us needs to understand that we are there to give the thirsty something to drink.

D] Stones should be avoided. It is obvious that water is stronger than granite, but it takes time for this to happen. It is no good letting yourself be overcome by stronger obstacles, or trying to fight against them – that is a useless waste of energy. It is best to understand where the way out is, and then move forward.

E] Hollows call for patience. All of a sudden the river enters a sort of hole and stops running as joyfully as before. At such moments the only way out is to count on the help of time. When the right moment comes the hollow fills up and the water can flow ahead. In the place of the ugly, lifeless hole there now stands a lake that others can contemplate with joy.

F] We are one. We were born in a place that was meant for us, which will always keep us supplied with enough water so that when confronted with obstacles or depression we have the necessary patience or strength to move forward. We begin our course in a soft and fragile manner, where even a simple leaf can stop us. Nevertheless, as we respect the mystery of the source that gave us life, and trust in His eternal wisdom, little by little we gain all that we need to pursue our path.

The Mind-Body Connection

In the Beginning

We are all IMMORTAL SPIRIT BEINGS who have lived out THOUSANDS of other physical lives here on earth before this one. Each time we die, we return to the spirit world and have a conference with wise counselors who review our life’s history and help us decide on the best plan for our future and continued SPIRITUAL GROWTH. for our NEXT physical lifetime. After a period of rest, study (oh yes, you’re as busy and occupied on the Other Side as you are on this one), and self examination, we return to the earth plane by entering the body of a carefully chosen newborn baby, just as we had done on so many occasions in the past. The memory of our past lives is erased from our CONSCIOUS mind when we begin a new life in order to allow us the complete freedom of making truly unbiased (and un coerced) SPIRITUAL DECISIONS on a day to day basis. Eventually we figure out what’s going on, live better lives, and earn the right to incarnate on other worlds where “the living is easier” and not nearly as contentious as earth life. As we progress upwards (spiritually speaking), we find ourselves experiencing higher (and lighter) frequency realms. Earth life is merely the first (and lowest) rung of a very long ladder of spiritual evolution. Earth life can be wonderful and full of joy and pleasure (and some pain) if we play our cards right, but it can also be a very trying and difficult existence if we don’t understand the Rules of Reality and decide to sleep with those who wish to be destructive and foment negativity or unkindness towards others.

That’s a super short condensation of The Big Story and I’ve left out a lot, but we will return to it as time allows.

The Smaller Story is as follows:

Reality

We are much more than what we appear to be. We base our perception of ourselves on what we see in the mirror. This physical perception is reinforced by society, our schools, and even our religions. We are alone, we think, fending off the wolves who would devour us and clinging to those who offer us support and loving care. Lord Jesus, Mother Mary, Lord Krishna, Lord Buddha, Mohammed, Zoarastra, etc. are thought of as Prophets or Saviors of Mankind who exist somewhere out there. When we pray to Them, we hope they can hear us out there and will come to our rescue when we need Them to save us from some dire situation. God is typically viewed as a Father figure, often depicted as a very muscular looking old man with a long white beard who is sitting on a throne in Heaven. Many religions reinforce this view of separation. Little, insignificant Us and big, powerful Them. Of course, many religions also teach us that their anointed representatives are necessary middlemen required to represent our interests before God, sort of like metaphysical lawyers. And you know how beneficial and necessary lawyers are, don’t you?

I’m being a little facetious, but I’m trying to get across the point that a fundamental misdirection has been taught by many organized religions that was never taught by the Founder of that religion. This misdirection did not come about by accident. It was intentional. It is the work of men who sought to gather power and privilege to themselves using the pretext of being earthly representatives of God. The purpose was to create a hierarchy of controlling elites at the top and the “‘followers” down below who were expected to pay the bills. A similar hierarchy evolved in the secular world with the idea of kingship/royalty and their “subjects” who again, were expected to pay (in some manner) for the privilege of being ruled and controlled. The true teachings of Christ and many other great spiritual teachers of antiquity were twisted and distorted by these elites desiring to create a paradigm of control and obedience to them. This is not what Christ taught or wanted. Jesus said that “The Kingdom of God is Within”. And so it is.

What did He mean? He meant that God exists within us at all times. We are part of God. We are not separated from God. We don’t have to go looking for Him because we already have Him within every molecule and atom of our being. In fact, none of us are truly separate from each other. It only appears that way. It’s an illusion, although it’s hard to accept that from our limited perspective. We are all part of God and God pervades everything. He is All That Is.

Now once you start to realize that, doors begin to open. You no longer feel so alone and fearful. You aren’t battling the Dark Forces of the universe by yourself, you now realize, but rather you have a great deal of help and support at your disposal. You are a part of God and God is a part of you.. You are an integral part of a greater Reality. A Divine Nature dwells within you since you are born of the Father and the Father is Divinity itself. Therefore, you have friends in very high places. The ancient Hindu scriptures wrote of these truths eons ago.

If you study the writings of yoga masters, you will come across the concept of Athman (Atman), or the Godhead figure within. The Soul and Atman are not exactly the same, but the Atman exist within the Soul. The Soul still retains the outer mantle of sense perception and carries the karmic baggage of previous lives. The Atman is completely detached and free of all sense desires or aversions. It is possible to perceive and experience the Atman while in this physical life. When you do, you are free. You can experience total bliss that will exceed anything your imagination can conjure. You will never view the world and its turmoil and triumphs in the same way, ever again.

Support Team

You have a team of Angels and Spirit Guides who have been ‘assigned’ to assist you during your earthly journey. Sometimes your Guides are changed or rotated depending on what sort of help you need at any given moment in your life. Guides are always beings who have experienced physical life many, many times and are very knowledgeable in the ways of the world. Your Angels, who have never experienced the physical plane, stay with you for the duration. These helpers always work in the background, but their assistance can become much more abundant and obvious if you attempt to communicate with them and seek their help.

One of the things that you’ll never hear about from conventional religious instructions is that there are certain spiritual Universal Laws in place that are in operation at all times throughout the universe. These Laws are inviolate and apply to all sentient beings whether you exist on the physical plane or in higher, non physical dimensions. They apply whether you come from Earth, Sirius B, Mars, Nibiru, Venus, or any other planet in this galaxy or any other galaxy. They apply in all the higher dimensional planes as well.

There are Three major Universal Laws and many other sub universal laws under the umbrella of the three main ones. One of those Universal Laws is the Law of Non Interference or Free Will. Simply stated, this law requires that Free Will rules above all else when it comes to receiving assistance from higher spirit beings. If you don’t want their help or do not ask for it, it cannot be ‘pushed’ on you. They must respect your Will. In an emergency, of course, due to ignorance on your part, your Angels will help get you out of a jam that might imperil your life or help avert a disaster, but as a rule they stand by ready to assist, but can only help you when you ask for their help. An extremely important point to remember. You’ve already been given this lesson by the Great Teacher who walked the Earth 2,000 years ago:” Knock and the Door shall be Opened unto you. Seek and you shall Find”.

The Law of Cause & Effect is also iron clad and causes us to acquire Karmic debt or Karma, at least in the lower dimensional planes. Once a soul ‘graduates’ to a high enough plane or spiritual dimension, he is no longer liable to incur Karmic debt. Karma, as you likely know, is reaping what you sow. For every unkind gesture, thought, action, or intention, you must pay the piper in this life or in future lives to come or both. The nastier you are, the more you’ll have to pay.

For every act of kindness, charity, or sacrifice, and every thought, word, deed or intention that you perform based on love and understanding (forgiveness), you pay down your Karmic debt and advance in soul development at the same time. Freedom from Karma can be achieved while still on earth and within the physical body. Many enlightened souls have done so down through the centuries. You can do it too, if you want it bad enough. The key for opening that golden door is obtained through enlightened mediation and complete self realization.

Paramahansa Yogananda and his predecessors taught a scientific form of enlightened meditation called Kriya Yoga that could permit the dedicated and devoted practitioner union with God, or samadhi and complete self realization while on earth.

The Law of Cause & Effect can also cause things to be created, including good health and freedom from adversity. I came upon an audio tape of Dr. Robert Bitzer in a most serendipitous way at the Power of Thought School in Fayetteville, Arkansas in the Fall of 1998. It was sitting there alone in a bin with other odd lot items for clearance sale. I think I paid 50 cents for it. I wouldn’t have taken it if the price wasn’t so low since I had no idea who Robert Bitzer was or if he had anything to say that I would be interested in.

It turned out to be the most powerful lecture that I’ve ever heard on the Law of Cause & Effect. I must have replayed it a hundred times. I can practically recite it from heart. I greatly treasure that tape and thank Spirit for allowing me to come upon it in the way that I did. Of course, now I know it was a set up all along. That’s the way they do it in the Spirit World. You think it’s dumb luck and blind chance, but Nahhhhh,…. it’s them giving you a lift to get up to speed and move you closer to God.

The Higher Self

Another topic that is never discussed in traditional religious education is the concept of the Higher Self. You think there is just you, the face you see in the mirror, and that you are alone in the world. You assume that the ego, the part of you that tenaciously clings to life, that jockeys for position and power, that propels you to seek physical gratification, that tempts you to dominate others, and causes you to respond to life’s tribulations with anxiety and fear is the very core of your being, but it is not so.

There is much more to you than you might imagine. The face you see in the mirror is but one aspect, in physical form, of your soul, but your soul is yet part of a larger concept called the Over soul. The Higher Self is the ‘director’, in a manner of speaking, of the Over soul and is directly connected to the Universal Cosmic Mind which in turn is connected to the core of all creation, God. All knowledge, all truths, and all possibilities exists within the Universal Cosmic Mind. If you can gain access to this “Above Top Secret” cosmic computer room, you can find out anything you want and manipulate reality to satisfy your wishes.

As it turns out, you already have an inside contact. It’s your own agent/representative inside the “Big Room with the Big Board” (borrowed from the movie Dr. Strangelove-one of the funniest satires of all times on the foolishness of the military mind and the immature egotism that animates it) and we call that representative our Higher Self.

Principles of Spiritual Activism

The following principles emerged from several years’ work with social change leaders in Satyana’s Leading with Spirit program. We offer these not as definitive truths, but rather as key learnings and guidelines that, taken together, comprise a useful framework for “spiritual activism.”

1. Transformation of motivation from anger/fear/despair to compassion/love/purpose. This is a vital challenge for today’s social change movement. This is not to deny the noble emotion of appropriate anger or outrage in the face of social injustice. Rather, this entails a crucial shift from fighting against evil to working for love, and the long-term results are very different, even if the outer activities appear virtually identical. Action follows Being, as the Sufi saying goes. Thus “a positive future cannot emerge from the mind of anger and despair” (Dalai Lama).

2. Non-attachment to outcome. This is difficult to put into practice, yet to the extent that we are attached to the results of our work, we rise and fall with our successes and failures—a sure path to burnout. Hold a clear intention, and let go of the outcome—recognizing that a larger wisdom is always operating. As Gandhi said, “the victory is in the doing,” not the results. Also, remain flexible in the face of changing circumstances: “Planning is invaluable, but plans are useless.”(Churchill)

3. Integrity is your protection. If your work has integrity, this will tend to protect you from negative energy and circumstances. You can often sidestep negative energy from others by becoming “transparent” to it, allowing it to pass through you with no adverse effect upon you. This is a consciousness practice that might be called “psychic aikido.”

4. Integrity in means and ends. Integrity in means cultivates integrity in the fruit of one’s work. A noble goal cannot be achieved utilizing ignoble means.

5. Don’t demonize your adversaries. It makes them more defensive and less receptive to your views. People respond to arrogance with their own arrogance, creating rigid polarization. Be a perpetual learner, and constantly challenge your own views.

6. You are unique. Find and fulfill your true calling. “It is better to tread your own path, however humbly, than that of another, however successfully.” (Bhagavad Gita)

7. Love thy enemy. Or at least, have compassion for them. This is a vital challenge for our times. This does not mean indulging falsehood or corruption. It means moving from “us/them” thinking to “we” consciousness, from separation to cooperation, recognizing that we human beings are ultimately far more alike than we are different. This is challenging in situations with people whose views are radically opposed to yours. Be hard on the issues, soft on the people.

8. Your work is for the world, not for you. In doing service work, you are working for others. The full harvest of your work may not take place in your lifetime, yet your efforts now are making possible a better life for future generations. Let your fulfillment come in gratitude for being called to do this work, and from doing it with as much compassion, authenticity, fortitude, and forgiveness as you can muster.

9. Selfless service is a myth. In serving others, we serve our true selves. “It is in giving that we receive.” We are sustained by those we serve, just as we are blessed when we forgive others. As Gandhi says, the practice of satyagraha (“clinging to truth”) confers a “matchless and universal power” upon those who practice it. Service work is enlightened self-interest, because it cultivates an expanded sense of self that includes all others.

10. Do not insulate yourself from the pain of the world. Shielding yourself from heartbreak prevents transformation. Let your heart break open, and learn to move in the world with a broken heart. As Gibran says, “Your pain is the medicine by which the physician within heals thyself.” When we open ourselves to the pain of the world, we become the medicine that heals the world. This is what Gandhi understood so deeply in his principles of ahimsa and satyagraha. A broken heart becomes an open heart, and genuine transformation begins.

11. What you attend to, you become. Your essence is pliable, and ultimately you become that which you most deeply focus your attention upon. You reap what you sow, so choose your actions carefully. If you constantly engage in battles, you become embattled yourself. If you constantly give love, you become love itself.

12. Rely on faith, and let go of having to figure it all out. There are larger ‘divine’ forces at work that we can trust completely without knowing their precise workings or agendas. Faith means trusting the unknown, and offering yourself as a vehicle for the intrinsic benevolence of the cosmos. “The first step to wisdom is silence. The second is listening.” If you genuinely ask inwardly and listen for guidance, and then follow it carefully—you are working in accord with these larger forces, and you become the instrument for their music.

13. Love creates the form. Not the other way around. The heart crosses the abyss that the mind creates, and operates at depths unknown to the mind. Don’t get trapped by “pessimism concerning human nature that is not balanced by an optimism concerning divine nature, or you will overlook the cure of grace.” (Martin Luther King) Let your heart’s love infuse your work and you cannot fail, though your dreams may manifest in ways different from what you imagine.

Understanding a Healthy Brain for Increasing Spirituality

The brain and its functions are the most important organ in the human body and the most complex system on earth. The brain allows the human being to visualize correctly, and to access intellectual powers to problem solve each situation the individual might face throughout life. It is masterful at taking in information and using it to reorganize itself to maximize efficiency and minimize discomfort.

Behaviors that Affect Optimal Brain Function to Recognize Truth verses False are:

Food Intake
Boredom and Loneliness
Analog and HD Television
Video Games
Fear and Anxiety
A Passive Brain
Fear and Congested Emotional Baggage

Food and Drink Consumption:

One of the predominant afflictions that cause low levels of intelligence in reference to an inadequate ability to problem-solving are directly related to poor food consumption. Substandard food and poor mixture of food, such as mixing bread, meat, and cheese, increases weight gain, causes constipation, and induces a lethargic brain. A sluggish brain is slow to progress, procrastinates, lacks energy and alertness. Concentration levels greatly decrease and the potentiality to increase consciousness and to decipher the deception is severally hindered through eating animal products, bread, sugar, and caffeine. A lifestyle of whole foods, vegan, and raw food can dynamically increase physical, mental, and emotional performance that will aid to increase consciousness.

A prolonged focused spiritual practice (or having a spiritual awakening), has a major impact on the brain, the mind, and personality.

The Trap of Boredom and Loneliness:

A problematic circumstance that is clearly manifested among humans is boredom. Boredom and Loneliness are two predominant issues among humanity. Humans do not enjoy experiencing boredom or loneliness. Both energetic dynamics produce a low self-esteem; boredom and loneliness are debilitating to self-confidence and self-assurance; boredom correlates with loneliness.

Your brain makes use of the new neurons to implement change

Many different activities can provide a person with an active lifestyle that is challenging and purposeful. The need and desire for an active purpose in life is a natural phenomenon. Realistically, humans enjoy feeling useful, pursuing a purpose; thus, work provides this need. Before electricity existed, humans had to work to live. Wood was essential for the winter, bread needed to be cooked each day, nowadays the situation is different with activities that causes laziness. Yet, people who are overworking ten to twelve hours a day, boredom can also dominate their intellect and the power to troubleshoot is reduced when forced to think outside the box.

A subject that is an absolute phenomenon is observing a person that has lost their joy, motivation, and purpose – who has become passionless concerning everything, a person who experiences everything as boring. This deeper context of boredom a person must avoid; sinking into a merciless pit that will damage the progression of spirituality. A person who is lethargic concerning life, their mentality slows to a halt. The intellect is severely damaged by becoming passive, living without the motivation to read a book. There are people who have allowed boredom to complete dominate their intlect to the point of losing all joy in life itself. In the presence of one or two people that is utterly bored in life, the atmospheric entrainment is so powerful; my own intellectual capacity was affected.

Consequently, boredom breeds addiction – addiction to nicotine, fatty foods, and alcohol dominate around the world. There is a high percentage of cultures that display a peculiar attitude concerning liquor. An imbalanced ideology generates alcoholism; an easy boring lifestyle contributes to its cause. Boredom creates poor eating and caffeine-drinking habits. Boredom creates a vast variety of habitual human behaviors.
